Georgia State volleyball has been name a recipient of the AVCA Team Academic Award, as announced by the organization earlier this week. The Panthers had 12 players earn individual academic honors following the spring semester.
The award, launched in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average.
“One of our missions is to excel academically”, said coach Sally Polhamus. “We are proud of the team’s commitment and discipline in their academic achievements.”
The Panthers finished the spring semester with a strong 3.62 GPA, well above the 3.30 needed to net the award. Carley Eiken, Madelyn Ott, Morgan Hash, and Paige Etherington all earned a spot on the President’s List with a 4.0 or higher GPA.
Crystal Lee, Anna Rantala, Katie Creger, and Cierra Sillmon were named to the Dean’s List; while Sarah Renner, Sydney Stroud, Kinkaid Padgett, and Jha’Meisheia Griffin all landed on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
“Their academic expectations and goals have raised the bar for our program, and for who we are as student athletes”, said Polhamus.
The Georgia State’s beach volleyball team was also honored with the award, making GSU one of only 13 schools to achieve the AVCA Team Academic Award in both beach and court volleyball.
