ATLANTA -- Georgia State head coach Shawn Elliott loves to be on the football field, even if it's a practice in the pouring rain.

That's what the Panthers had for Day 2 of preseason camp Thursday morning, and that was just fine for Georgia State's second-year head coach as his squad continues preparations for the 2018 season opener, which is exactly four weeks from today. Georgia State hosts Kennesaw State on Thursday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at Georgia State Stadium.

"Anytime you can go out on the field, it's an opportunity to get better," Elliott said. "These are spirited practices, when you get rain like this. We're thrilled to be out here. We're going to attack each day like it's our last."

Just two days in, the Panthers haven't even put on shoulder pads yet, but so far, so good, according to Elliott.

"I think our guys have really developed both physically and mentally over the summer," he said. "We have a lot of retention from a year ago, but a lot of new faces.

"We're getting a lot of looks, working three teams right now, trying to identify some younger guys who might be able to move up the depth chart. Great competition is something that brings out the best in a man."

Friday's practice will be the first with shoulder pads, while the first day in full gear in next Tuesday.

Season tickets for Panthers' the six-game home schedule at GSU Stadium begin as low as $100. Single-game tickets range from $20 to $25 per game, while group ticket packages are available for groups of 10 more ranging from $10 to $15 per game.
