CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Georgia State women’s soccer earned its first road win of the season after Hannah Davis scored the game-winning goal in the 105th minute of Friday’s 2-1 double overtime victory over Chattanooga. It was GSU’s third consecutive match to reach double overtime, a stretch where the Panthers are undefeated.
The win propelled Georgia State to 2-2-1 overall while Chattanooga fell to 3-2-0 on the year. The Panthers improved to a perfect 3-0 all-time against the Mocs.
Chattanooga took control early with a goal in the sixth minute of Friday’s match. Neither team was able to get much going for the remainder of the half, as both the Panthers and Mocs had just three shots apiece after 45 minutes of play.
The GSU offense came alive in the second half and led to Brooke Shank heading in the equalizer in the 60th minute off an assist from Ava Jouvenel. The goal was Shank’s third of the season, already tripling her total from last year.
Georgia State continued to keep the pressure on the Mocs late in the second half but were unable to net the winning goal before the end of regulation. Both teams attempted two shots in the first overtime period but remained tied. Then in the fifth minute of the second overtime period, Caitlin Ray tapped a pass to Davis who buried it in the back of the net to give her team their second win of the season.
GSU ended the night with 14 total shots and five on goal while Chattanooga had 11 total shots and seven on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Lydia Fraga had six saves and earned her first win of the season.
The Panthers are back in action 6 p.m. Sunday for a match against UAB at the GSU Soccer Complex. Sunday’s matchup will be the third meeting between the Panthers and the Blazers, with UAB owning a 2-0 all-time series advantage. The Blazers won the most recent outing 1-0 in 2017.
