What you need to know:

*Georgia State dropped the home opener 3-0 to Sam Houston State Friday evening.

*Sarah Renner collected her second double-double of the 2018 season, with 22 assists and 11 digs.

*GSU will battle Chicago State and Ole Miss on Saturday to close out the weekend.


 

ATLANTA-Georgia State volleyball fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-12) in the home opener to Sam Houston State on Friday night. Sydney Stroud and Dzemila Hadzic each had nine kills for GSU in the effort.

The Panthers trailed 7-2 early, but would rally with a 4-0 run would close the gap to 11-9. Sam Houston State would find separation before two blocks by Shae Chapman closed the gap to 23-21. The Bearkats would take the final three points and a 25-21 set win.

The Panthers would battle the Bearkats to the same result in the second set. Sam Houston would clinch the victory with a 25-12 third set win. The loss would drop GSU to 2-5 on the year.

Senior Sarah Renner dished out 22 assists while picking up 11 digs for her second double-double of the season. Shae Chapman was a force at the net for GSU with four blocks on the evening.

The Panthers will have a chance to defend their home court again tomorrow as the GSU Invitational roles on. Georgia State will take on Chicago State at noon, before finishing the weekend against Ole Miss at 6:30.

Admission to all of Saturday’s matches is free and parking can be accessed via the G Deck adjacent to the Sports Arena.
