ATHENS, Ga. - Opening the 2018 cross country season at the UGA Bulldog Invite, Georgia State's cross country team finished third Saturday morning, narrowly edging out Kennesaw State.

Angela Alonso recorded GSU's best finish, coming in at 17th with a 6K time of 21:58.9. Freshman Marine Garnier placed 26th (22:16.3) and Nuria Ramirez and Anouk Prop finished 35th and 36th, respectively.

Saturday's competitors battled high humidity and blazing temperatures at the UGA Golf Course. Georgia Tech won the event with 24 points. Georgia finished second with 38 points.

Georgia State travels to the Lone Star State Sept. 22 for the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas.
