*Georgia State defeated Presbyterian College 3-1 Friday afternoon behind strong play from four seniors.

*Crystal Lee led the way with 17 kills, while Sarah Renner dished out 35 assists with 15 digs.

*The Panthers will open up the conference schedule next weekend with home matches against Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State.


CLINTON, SC- Georgia State volleyball relied on their senior leadership in a tight 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23) victory over Presbyterian College Friday afternoon in Clinton. Seniors Crystal Lee, Sarah Renner, Shae Chapman, and Anna Rantala all stuffed the stat sheet in the Panther win.

Crystal Lee recorded 17 kills in the contest while hitting .275. Shae Chapman would add eight kills with no errors on just 16 attempts blocking a career high seven attempts on defense, while Sarah Renner would finish with 35 assists and 15 digs. Anna Rantala would add 10 digs and two aces in the win.

In the opening set Georgia State hit .303 as a team racking up 14 kills in a 25-21 win. Sydney Stroud got off to a hot start with four kills in the first frame.

After trailing 20-12 in set two, the Panthers would battle back ultimately falling 25-20. However, GSU would come back strong holding Presbyterian to a .023 hitting percentage on the way to a 25-21 win.

GSU would battle back from an early fourth set deficit to finish off the match with a 25-23 fourth set win. Lee would put down seven kills in the final frame to clinch a 3-1 lead for the Panthers.

Georgia State was originally scheduled to play Davidson tomorrow morning at 11:00, however the match has been postponed due to Hurricane Florence.

Next weekend the Panthers return to the GSU Sports Arena to kick off the Sun Belt slate. GSU will face defending conference champion Coastal Carolina at 6:30 pm on Friday, and battle Appalachian State at 7:00 pm Saturday night.
