ATLANTA - Georgia State's cross country team travels to Texas for the Texas A&M Invitational Saturday in College Station.

"Georgia State will use this trip to compete against teams we don't normally see in the Southeast during our regular season competitions," head coach Chris England said.

GSU will compete against Texas A&M, Central Michigan, Houston, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Rice, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Tarleton State, TAMU-Kingsville, TCU, Tulane and UTRGV.

England also noted that this event will serve as preparation for the Panthers' late-season meets.

"Saturday's race will be a 6K event, same length that the team will run later this season at the NCAA Regional Championship on Nov. 9., "England said.

For GSU's freshmen, the Texas A&M Invite marks just the second collegiate competition. It provides an opportunity for some experience for the younger runners.

GSU opened the season two weeks ago at the UGA Bulldog Invite. Angela Alonso was GSU's top finisher as the team placed 3rd at the meet.

Saturday's meet will start at 9:45 a.m. ET and will take place at Watts Cross Country Course, host of the 2017 and 2018 NCAA Central Regional Championship.
