ATLANTA - Georgia State's cross country team will be competing Saturday at the USC Upstate 5K at 9 a.m. in Spartanburg, S.C.

"With us still being a month away from the Sun Belt Championship, this meet will serve as a good benchmark for our team's fitness as we head into October," head coach Chris England said.

Joining the Panthers in Spartanburg will be 22 other teams, including nine from Divison-I. A pair of Sun Belt foes in Appalachian State and Georgia Southern provide GSU with an opportunity to run against teams that the Panthers will face at the conference championship later this fall.

"Appalachian State was picked to finish high in the conference in our preseason poll so it will be good to run against them and see how we measure up," England said. "It's also always fun to go against our rivals from Statesboro."

GSU will have eight runners competing in the 5K on Saturday.
