Former Georgia State football standout Wil Lutz, now the placekicker for the New Orleans Saints, has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for Septemember.

The Newnan, Ga., native (Northgate High School) is in his third NFL season after signing a free agent contract with the Saints just prior to the 2016 season.

Lutz starred for the Panthers from 2012-15 as a four-year starting place-kicker who added punting duties as a senior and earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors. He is Georgia State’s career leader in field goals (31), extra points (120) and points (213), and he also set the school record for punting average at 42.84.
