ATLANTA, GA.- Georgia State volleyball defeated UT Arlington 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22) on Friday night at the GSU Sports Arena. The win elevated GSU to 2-2 in Sun Belt Play. The Panthers were powered by double doubles from Crystal Lee and Sarah Renner, as well as 12 kills from Sydney Stroud.
On the defensive side of the net, GSU held Arlington to just .087 hitting for the match. Meisheia Griffin recorded nine blocks, tying a career high. Kinkaid Padgett added 14 digs and Lauren Bandera supplied ten.
Georgia State jumped out to a one set lead with a 25-18 win in the first frame. The Panthers were led by a six kill effort from Sydney Stroud, and 14 assists from Renner. Georgia State hit .419 as a team in the frame, holding Arlington to a .032 percentage.
The second set would see the Panthers hold an 18-15 lead before a 5-0 lead from UTA would put the Mavericks in front. They would hold a three point advantage en route to a 25-22 win.
In the third, GSU would dominate at the net on the way to a 25-16 win. Griffin and Stroud would each send back three blocks in the frame. At 24-16, Crystal Lee would put down her tenth kill of the evening, giving her a double double and the Panthers a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Panthers would take a quick 5-0 lead in the fourth behind a pair of aces from Lauren Bandera and a kill from Lee. UTA would come back to take a brief lead, but the Panthers would prevail 25-22 to take the 3-1 win.
Lee finished the night with a match high 15 kills and 14 digs for her third double double in her last four matches. Renner dished out 39 assists to go with 11 digs. Stroud added six blocks and Griffin threw down 10 kills in a complete team win.
GSU will be back in action tomorrow night looking for another win against Texas State. The Panthers and Bobcats will get things going at 6:30 at the GSU Sports Arena.
