ATLANTA, GA.- The Panthers are back in action at the GSU Sports Arena this weekend for their fourth and fifth home matches in just nine days. Georgia State will take on South Alabama Friday night and Troy Saturday evening to wrap up a hectic five game stretch. Both matches are 6:30 pm starts and will be broadcast live on PantherVision.

The matches will mark the second time in just two weeks that the Panthers have faced off against their conference foes from Alabama. GSU, 2-4 in Sun Belt play defeated Troy (2-4) in five sets, but fell to South Alabama (2-4) over a late September road trip.

“We are excited to host South Alabama and Troy in our home gym after seeing them two weeks ago on the road” said coach Sally Polhamus. “This back to back schedule allows us to make adjustments from our first match both offensively and defensively. The focus has been our side of the ball and how to score points more effectively.”

The Panthers have been strong at the net defensively through six conference matches, ranking second as a team in blocks per set with 2.57. Meisheia Griffin (1.52) and Sydney Stroud (1.04) rank second and seventh respectively among Sun Belt players in blocks per frame.

Griffin has also stepped up offensively in recent matches for Polhamus’ club. The sophomore from Columbus has 38 kills in just 23 Sun Belt sets, and her .305 hitting percentage ranks seventh among all conference players.

Admission to all Panther volleyball matches is free.  As a reminder, construction of the Courtland St. Bridge is ongoing. Parking for the matches is still available via G Deck, but we encourage fans to allow extra time to navigate the construction.  If you cannot make it to the Sports Arena tune in to PantherVision or follow along with live stats.
