ATLANTA – Georgia State men’s soccer picked up its first win in Sun Belt play with a 1-0 victory over Howard Saturday night at the GSU Soccer Complex, getting the lone goal from Dylan Morris in the 41st minute.
GSU improved to 7-4-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference play while Howard dropped to 2-6-3 overall and 0-2-0 in the Sun Belt. Saturday was Georgia State’s sixth straight win over the Bison, including its third consecutive shutout.
Saturday’s match yielded 30 total fouls and five total yellow cards, one of the more physical battles the Panthers have had all season. Despite the constant pressing from the Howard defenders, Georgia State was able to keep pace and create good shots throughout the match.
Morris broke the tie in the 41st minute with a shot inside the six-yard box off an assist from Liam Fitzsimmons. The goal was Morris’ first of the season, becoming the 10th different Panther to net a goal this year.
Junior goalkeeper Paul Tyson earned his seventh win between the posts this year and recorded his fifth shutout in Saturday’s win over Howard, tying him for the most shutouts in the league. Tyson tallied three total saves in the win, the eighth time this season he’s had three or more saves in a single match.
