BOONE, N.C.- Georgia State volleyball fell in straight sets (25-14, 25-17, 25-20) to the first place Appalachian State Mountaineers in North Carolina Friday night. Senior Sarah Renner finished the match with 20 assists, pushing her over the 2,400-career assist mark and into fifth place in GSU history.
Mid way through the second set, Renner set Meisheia Griffin who completed the kill. The assist was number 15 on the evening and 2,396 in the career of the senior from Cedar Rapids. The Panthers battled in the third set behind five digs from Bandera and three more blocks by Griffin. Four kills from Anna Rantala gave the Panthers an offensive boost, but it was not enough to hold off Appalachian State who took the third set 25-20 to clinch the match.
Bandera would end the night with a match high 15 digs, marking the seventh straight match with at least 15 digs for the freshman libero. Griffin’s six blocks also led all players. The sophomore has 105 blocks on the season. Anna Rantala delivered a season high five kills while hitting .375 on the evening.
