FOLEY, Ala. – Georgia State women’s soccer senior forward Caitlin Ray was named to the 2018 Sun Belt All-Tournament team, the league announced on Sunday.
Ray supplied the Panthers with the game-tying goal and added an assist in GSU’s 3-2 overtime victory over three-seed Coastal Carolina Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Her three points were the second-most in a single match of the tournament.
The assist in Wednesday’s win was the 13th of Ray’s career, tying her for eighth on the GSU all-time career assists list. The Loganville, Ga., native ended the season with a team-high 14 total points off four goals and six assists. Ray’s 14 points were ranked in the top-10 among all players in the Sun Belt this year.
Georgia State concluded its season 8-10-2 after falling to eventual champion Little Rock 2-0 in the semifinals. Despite the loss, the Panthers had one of the best turnaround seasons in program history, finishing the final eight matches 6-1-1 after a 2-9-1 start. During the team's October win streak, the Panthers strung together four consecutive conference victories – a feat the program hadn't accomplished in 14 years.
