*Georgia State fell in four sets to Georgia Southern Friday night in Statesboro.

*The Panthers were led by a strong offensive effort by Madelyn Ott, Meisheia Griffin, and Sydney Stroud.

STATESBORO- Georgia State dropped a four set match to Georgia Southern (13-25, 26-24, 25-20, 30-28) Friday night in Statesboro. Madelyn Ott would match her career high with 16 kills in the regular season finale.

 

In addition to Ott’s 16 kills, Sydney Stroud would add 15 kills and Meisheia Griffin would record 12 kills and seven blocks. The trio would all hit over .270 on the evening. The loss dropped Georgia State to 4-12 in the Sun Belt.

The Panthers raced out to a 7-1 lead in the first set in part by two aces from Sarah Renner, and would not look back. Griffin and Ott slammed five kills each as GSU coasted to a 25-13 opening set victory.

 

Georgia State would fall behind 22-16 late in the second set, but rally to tie the frame at 23-23. Despite the large comeback Georgia Southern would ultimately take the set 26-24, evening the match at 1-1.

 

Georgia Southern would jump out to big leads in the third and fourth sets. The Eagles would take the third frame easily 25-20, but GSU would fight back in the fourth, pushing the marathon set to 30-28.

 

Sarah Renner dished out 42 assists and added 11 digs in her eighth double double on the season. The senior would add three service aces as GSU won the battle at the service line 10-0. Lauren Bandera continued her strong defensive play with 18 digs.

The result gives Georgia Southern a half point in the Rivalry Series, tying the season total at two points per school.
