ATLANTA -- After leading the Georgia State basketball team to a 2-0 start in Sun Belt Conference play, senior Malik Benlevi is the Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week.
Benlevi averaged 16 points and six rebounds in the Panthers' Texas two-game sweep over UT Arlington and Texas State.
Benlevi began the week with 10 points, five rebounds, two steals and two blcoked shots in GSU's 63-58 win over the Mavericks.
On Saturday, the senior captain stepped up with 22 points and seven rebounds as the Panthers topped Texas State 73-69. Benlevi went 8-of-13 from the floor and 5-of-8 from 3-point range.
Georgia State won its fourth-straight game and opened Sun Belt play 2-0 for the first time since the 2014-15 season. The Panthers have won 15 straight games in the month of January, dating back to 2017.
For the season, Benlevi is averaging 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. The Savannah, Ga., native has a team-high 37 3-pointers and is shooting 42.0 percent from beyond the arc.
The Panthers will return to action on Thursday night, hosting rival Louisiana at 7 p.m. in the GSU Sports Arena.
