ATLANTA -- Adding skilled athletes to an early class that was dominated by linemen, Georgia State added seven signees to its 2018-19 recruiting class on Wednesday's National Signing Day, joining the 13 new additions who signed in December.

On Wednesday, the Panthers added two receivers, two defensive backs, a tight end, a punter-placekicker and a defensive lineman.

"Our staff did an excellent job of evaluating and finding the student-athletes who fit our needs," head coach Shawn Elliott said. "They have to be so much more than just great athletes. They have to have great academics and high character, and they have to be tough individuals. Overall, we feel we've found that.

"We had a chance to add three more players on offense, three on defense and a specialist," Elliott continued. "We added a real play-maker on the defensive line, along with two wide receivers, two secondary players and a punter-placekicker."

Combining the two groups, Georgia State's class includes eight linemen, including five on defense and three on offense, along with four defensive backs, three linebackers, two receivers, one quarterback, one tight end and one punter-placekicker.

As the Georgia State program--which is entering its 10th season in 2019--continues to grow and the facilities continue to improve, Elliott is pleased with the response that he and his staff are receiving on the recruiting trail.

"It's really amazing to see," Elliott said. "When you talk to the families after the visit, they have such great things to say about our staff, this great city of Atlanta and of course about Georgia State."

Two defensive linemen who signed in December enrolled at Georgia State in January and will participate in spring practice in junior college transfer Tahji Gilbert (NW Mississippi CC) and Javon Denis (Deerfield Beach, Fla., HS).

The Panthers open spring practice March 12.
