GULF SHORES, Ala.- No. 18 Georgia State downed a pair of CCSA opponents Saturday at the March to May Tournament in Gulf Shores. GSU swept Tulane 5-0 and held on to defeat Southern Miss 3-2, improving to 6-4 on the season. The Panthers top three pairs, Georgia Johnson and Eden Hawes, Olivia Stasevich and Maddy Delmonte, and Brooke Weiner and Kate Novack all went 2-0 on the day.


Georgia State began the day by winning over Tulane for the second time in eight days. The Sandy Panthers swept the Green Wave 5-0 Saturday, after having bested Tulane 3-2 last weekend in Fort Worth.


Becky Tresham and Maddie Gordon got things started with a two set 21-10, 21-11 win on court five, and Weiner and Novack would follow up with a 21-12, 23-21 win of their own on court three. Stasevich and Delmonte would clinch the dual with a win on court two just moments before Hawes and Georgia Johnson would take the point on court one. Mattie Johnson and Kelly Dorn would finish the sweep off with a 16-21, 21-12, 15-12 win in the fourth flight.


In the afternoon affair Jonson and Hawes, and Stasevich and Delmonte would once again put their opponents away in two sets. Weiner and Novack would clinch the dual for GSU with a three set 16-21, 21-15, 15-12 win in the three flight.


The Panthers will look to finish off a perfect weekend with two more duals tomorrow in Gulf Shores. GSU will take on Houston Baptist at 11:30 a.m. before battling Austin Peay at 1:00 p.m. in the weekend finale.
