*Georgia State split a pair of duals, narrowly losing to Southern Cal before sweeping Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday afternoon at the GSU Beach Complex.
*GSU is now 9-5 on the season heading into a weekend trip to Columbia, S.C.
ATLANTA- No. 18 Georgia State beach volleyball (9-5) split a pair of duals in front of a large home crowd Saturday afternoon in downtown Atlanta. GSU was outlasted by No. 2 Southern California 4-1, but rebounded to knock off Florida Gulf Coast 5-0.
Junior Maddie Gordon and freshman Becky Tresham won both of their matches, defeating USC’s five pair and FCGU’s four flight. The pair of victories extends Gordon and Tresham’s winning streak to five, the pair is 9-4 on the year.
The Panthers got out to an early 1-0 lead against the No. 2 team in the nation thanks to a two set win on court five from Becky Tresham and Maddie Gordon. Olivia Stasevich and Maddy Delmonte on court two, and Ashley McGinn and Kelly Dorn on court four would win their first sets. However, the Trojans would come back to win on the remaining four courts, handing GSU a 4-1 loss.
Tresham and Gordon got the Panthers going again in dual two with another two-set win. McGinn and Dorn quickly followed with a two set win of their own to give GSU a 2-0 lead over the Eagles.
Stasevich and Delmonte would clinch the match on court two just moments before Georgia Johnson and Eden Hawes put the Panthers up 4-0 with a win on court one. On court three, Brooke Weiner and Kate Novack would battle after losing set one to win set two, and dominate 15-5 in the third to complete the sweep.
Georgia State is back on the road this weekend headed to the Gamecock Grand Slam in Columbia, S.C. GSU will face South Carolina, UAB, Stetson, and Eastern Kentucky next weekend in the Palmetto State.
