ATLANTA – Emily Soles guided Georgia State to a 5-2 win in the first game of a doubleheader against South Alabama Saturday, but the Jaguars claimed the second game 14-6.

Soles got the start in the circle for the Panthers and was impressive in the first game of the day. Soles went the distance for her second complete game of the year, holding the Jaguars to two earned runs.

GSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run double by Arden Jobe in the bottom of the second.

After USA tied the game at 2-2 in the third, the Panthers retook the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth. With two runners on, Caitlin Ray hit her conference-leading 12th double of the season to give GSU the lead.

The Panthers added an insurance run in the sixth as Reagan Morgan crossed the plate on a single by Kalynn Hicks.

South Alabama rebounded with a big win in the second game of the doubleheader. The Jaguars scored six runs in in the third and five runs in the seventh on their way to a 14-6 victory.

USA took a 1-0 lead in the first, but Georgia State came right back with a pair of runs in the home half to lead 2-1.

The Panthers kept fighting back after USA took a 7-2 lead. GSU closed the gap to just two runs before the Jaguars pulled away over the last two innings.

Next up for the Panthers is a short trip to Kennesaw State on Wednesday.
