ATLANTA- Georgia State beach volleyball player Maddy Delmonte has been selected to the CCSA All-Freshman Team as announced by the conference Thursday afternoon. The Virginia Beach native enters this weekend’s conference tournament with a 20-12 record on the season.
Of Delmonte’s 20 wins, 18 have come in either the top or second flight for the Panthers. The freshman is just one of three GSU athletes to compete in all 32 duals this season. Delmonte accumulated 10 wins early in the season with partner Olivia Stasevich highlighted by wins over opposition from Grand Canyon and Tulane. Since pairing with Eden Hawes, Delmonte has gone 10-4 with wins over pairs from FAU, College of Charleston, and Arizona State. The duo enters this weekend winners of seven of their last nine matches.
“Maddy has played an important role for our team and has grown tremendously throughout the season,” said coach Beth Van Fleet. “She’s a student of the game and has worked to instantly implement suggestions from her teammates and partners. We are proud of the strength she’s displayed competing at a high level in close matches. Her contributions - along with those of all of our team members, are greatly appreciated.”
As successful as Delmonte has been on the courts, she has been equally impressive in the classroom. The freshman was selected to the Fall 2018 President’s List after posting a 4.0 GPA.
Delmonte is the first Panther to be named to the CCSA All-Freshman Team since senior Brooke Weiner earned the distinction following the 2016 season.
Georgia State beach volleyball will be in action Friday in the opening round of the CCSA Tournament at the LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Georgia. The Panthers will face Tulane and South Carolina in opening round play.
