ATLANTA- Georgia State beach volleyball head coach Beth Van Fleet is pleased to announce the addition of new assistant coach Wayne Holly to the Panther family.

“I’ve had the honor and privilege of coaching against Wayne (Holly) for the last six years and am delighted that we will now have the opportunity to work together to guide the GSU program,” said Van Fleet.  “His practical approach to training and unwavering support of the people who actually play the game will be well received by not only the student-athletes but also our staff and administration. One would be hard-pressed to find a better educator with regard to his knowledge, character, professionalism and work ethic.”

"I am thrilled to be joining the coaching staff at Georgia State and energized to begin the process of learning and growing together with so many wonderful people,” said Holly.  “I've long admired the Georgia State beach volleyball program for its capacity to develop people who are capable of achieving sustained excellence both academically and competitively.  The opportunity to become part of that process and to build upon a history of success is an extraordinary one. I'm grateful to Beth Van Fleet and to Georgia State University for the opportunity."

Wayne Holly joins the Georgia State University beach volleyball staff as an assistant coach leading up to the 2020 season.

Holly comes to Atlanta after six seasons as the head coach at Tulane University in New Orleans. There he accumulated a 109-77 record. His 109 career wins ranks 7th most among active D-1 head coaches and 9th all-time in NCAA history.

During his time at Tulane, Holly led the beach volleyball team to three straight seasons with more than 20 wins. During Holly’s six year tenure Tulane’s beach program was the winningest women’s sports program on campus and the second winningest overall.

Prior to his time at Tulane University, Holly served as the assistant coach at Brown University.

Apart from his collegiate career, Holly has coaching experience with the USA Beach High Performance Program Experience and USA Junior Beach National Teams. He has served in various roles such as volunteer, evaluator, tryout coach, assistant coach, and head coach.

Notably, Holly served as the assistant coach for the U23 USA Junior Beach National Teams, and led teams at the FIVB U23 Beach Volleyball World Championship in Poland during the summer of 2014. While in the summer of 2012, Holly led two beach teams to Gold and Bronze medals in the U17 division of the USA Beach Volleyball National High Performance Championship

Holly graduated from Rhode Island College in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and political science. After earning his undergraduate degrees, he earned his J.D. degree from New York Law School. He worked as an attorney for 10 years.
