ATLANTA – Georgia State men’s soccer will look to start the season off 3-0 for the first time since 2003 this weekend, as the Panthers travel to take on UNC Asheville on Saturday night before returning home to host North Florida on Monday.

SCOUTING UNC ASHEVILLE (1-1)

-UNC Asheville is off to a 1-1 start, dropping the season opener 3-1 at Navy before bouncing back to knock off VMI 2-1 in the team’s first home match of the year.
-Junior forward Tyson Hitchman leads the Bulldogs with two goals. He posted six total shots and four shots on goal in Asheville’s win over VMI.
-Georgia State owns an 10-5 all-time record against UNC Asheville, including a 5-1 record in Asheville, N.C. GSU enters Friday’s contest on a six-match win streak against the Bulldogs.

SCOUTING NORTH FLORIDA (1-0)

-North Florida opened the year with a 1-0 overtime victory over USC Upstate on Aug. 30. Senior forward Jake Hawker scored the game-winner in the 92nd minute to give the Ospreys the win.
-UNF was predicted to finish third in the ASUN conference through the league’s Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Highlighting the Ospreys’ returners are 2018 All-ASUN selections Nick Burgess and Bryson Smith along with All-Freshman honoree Nick Lodovico.
-GSU leads the all-time series against North Florida 4-2, winning the most recent outing between the two programs 2-1 in 2015. The Panthers have won four straight against UNF.

WEEK 1 RECAP

-Georgia State kicked off the 2019 season with back-to-back victories, topping Presbyterian 2-1 in the season opener then defeating Belmont 3-1 Monday night at the GSU Soccer Complex.
-Junior forward Aris Briggs netted two goals in each game for the Panthers, giving him a team-high eight points through two matches. Briggs is only two goals away from tying his 2018 goal total.
-After two contests, both GSU and its opponents have fired a total of eight shots on goal.
