ATLANTA -- First-year head baseball coach Brad Stromdahl has announced Georgia State's 2020 schedule, and Opening Day is just 141 days away.

 

Stromdahl will make his debut as the Panthers' head coach on Friday, Feb. 14 when the Panthers host 2019 NCAA Regional team Cincinnati at the GSU Baseball Complex in the opening game of the sixth annual Atlanta Challenge.

 

Georgia State's preparations for the 2020 season begin in earnest next Monday, Sept. 30, when the Panthers begin official team practice, which continues through Nov. 2.

 

"We have a lot of work to do, but we are excited about the challenge," Stromdahl said. "The Sun Belt is a tremendous conference that really tests you every weekend, and our non-conference slate offers great competition as well."

 

Notes on the 2020 Georgia State baseball schedule:

 

> The 56-game slate includes 29 home dates at the GSU Baseball Complex.

 

> The Panthers face 2019 NCAA Regional foes Georgia (1), Georgia Tech (2), Tennessee (1), Cincinnati (1), Mercer (2) and Coastal Carolina (3).

 

> For the sixth consecutive year, Georgia State will open the season by hosting the Atlanta Challenge, in conjunction with metro Atlanta neighbors Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State. Cincinnati, a 2019 NCAA Regional team, along with St. John's and Saint Peter’s visit for this year's event, playing one game at each of the Atlanta schools from Feb. 14-16.

 

> The Panthers will play every Division I team in the state of Georgia, including home-and-home with Georgia Tech, Mercer and Kennesaw State, a Sun Belt Conference road series at Georgia Southern and a single game at Georgia.

 

> Georgia State opens Sun Belt Conference play by hosting South Alabama the weekend of March 13-15. The Panthers also host Louisiana, Little Rock, Texas State and Appalachian State for conference weekends and travel for road series at defending champion Coastal Carolina as well as UT Arlington, Troy, Arkansas State and Georgia Southern. GSU does not play ULM.

 

> New for this season, the conference tournament moves to a neutral site. The 43rd annual Sun Belt Baseball Championship will be played May 19-24 at Montgomery's Riverwalk Stadium, home to the Montgomery Biscuits, the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
