Georgia State will play the Sun Belt’s Texas schools this weekend on the road.
Lauren Bandera leads the defensive efforts with 284 digs.
ATLANTA- Georgia State is on the road for the first time in October for a pair of matches in the Lone Star State. The Panthers will face Texas State on Friday night before playing UT Arlington Saturday evening. Both matches start at 7:30 pm.
GSU will look to improve to improve on a 1-3 conference record, coming off a split performance to the Sun Belt’s Alabama schools over the weekend. Texas State enters the weekend 12-7 overall and 4-1 in the Sun Belt. The Bobcats are led by Karen Chisum in her 40th season at the helm. UT Arlington is 10-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Mavericks return 11 players from last year, including four seniors.
The Panthers defense has stepped up in the middle of the season. Griffin leads the Sun Belt with an average 1.17 blocks per set. In the back row Lauren Bandera’s 4.66 digs per set rank second in the conference.
On offense seniors Sydney Stroud and Madelyn Ott have continued to be key hitters for the Panthers. Stroud leads the offense with 131 kills. Ott has proven to be the most efficient hitter with a .348 hitting percentage, best for third in the Sun Belt.
The Panthers are looking to improve on a 2-10 record against Texas State. The last GSU victory over the Bobcats came in 2014. UT Arlington leads the all-time series against GSU 7-3 with the Panthers taking last year’s contest.
