ATLANTA—The Georgia State University football team will play at the University of Alabama in the Panthers’ inaugural season of 2010, the two schools announced Wednesday.

The contest, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., will be the Panthers’ final game in their first season of play.

Georgia State will announce its entire 2010 schedule in August, including home dates and opponents at the Georgia Dome.

“Obviously this quickens the pace of everything we are doing as we build toward our first season,” said Georgia State head coach Bill Curry, who spent three seasons (1987-89) as the Alabama head coach, highlighted by the 1989 Southeastern Conference title.

“It’s been a great motivator for our staff, and it will be a great motivator for our players. The opportunity to go into that environment and see how football is played at that level will be quite a learning experience.

“We would have preferred to wait until year two or three to take on a challenge like this, but 2010 was the only opening that Alabama had available and we just didn’t want to pass up this chance.”

The Panthers’ first recruiting class will enroll at Georgia State and begin practice this fall. State’s first official practice is scheduled for Aug. 17.
