Tryouts will be held May 15 and 16 on the
3rd floor of the Sports Arena. Cost for tryouts is $40. Tryouts will consist of a cheer, dance, jumps, tumbling, stunts,
and an interview. An alternate tryout date will be given at the coach's discretion
for extenuating circumstances like graduations or prom. Please contact

The cheer squad is active following the spring tryouts with practice and preparation to attend collegiate cheer camp and finalize preparations in support of the upcoming athletics season. Cheerleaders provide support at pep rallies, football games, home and away basketball events, the conference basketball tournament, national cheer competitions and other appropriate University and athletic functions.
Academics:
Squad members must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.
Try-outs:
Try-outs take place at the end of the spring semester (April/May) for the Blue and White Teams. We have 32 total cheerleaders with 16 members made up of males and females on each squad. The Blue Team will cheer football games, home men's basketball games, the conference basketball tournament, national cheer competitions and other appropriate University and athletics functions. The White Team will cheer football games, home Women's basketball games, the conference basketball tournament, alternates for national cheer competitions and other appropriate University and athletics functions.
Travel:
Out of town travel cost and per diem is covered by the Georgia State Athletics Department.
Equipment supplied by Georgia State Athletics:
Uniform, camp clothes, warm ups, cold weather gear, practice facility, mats, etc.
Scholarships:
We are working to enhance this funding through sponsorship, fund-raising and donations. Currently our scholarship stipends range from $250-$1000 per year depending on team selection. Scholarships are distributed accordingly at the conclusion of the fall/spring semester activities.
Fundraisers:
There are a minimum of 5 fundraisers for the year.
Appearances:
The Athletics Department requires squad appearance at various functions throughout the entire year.
These include: alumni functions, press conferences, campus related events, parades, etc....
Game Week Involvement:
During the week of a home basketball game or major sporting events, there are appearances throughout the week on campus. On game day, squad members are required to be at the Sports Arena 1 hour prior to tip off for various sport related functions.
Personal Insurance Requirements:
Squad members must have current proof of personal health insurance before participating in tryouts; personal insurance must also be maintained throughout participation.
