ATLANTA (Nov. 2, 2006) -- Two Georgia State men's soccer players -- graduate midfielder Martin Zaluk and junior defender Aaron Shepherd -- were named to the All-CAA Second Team by the CAA men's soccer coaches.

Zaluk and Shepherd are the first players to earn All-CAA Second Team honors from the Georgia State men's soccer team. In 2005, Dathan Knott and Filipe Carvalho earned All-CAA Rookie Team honors.

"I am very proud of Martin and Aaron," said head coach Kerem Daser. "Aaron has been our best player the last three years. He is a great leader in the back and deserves the award. He is one of the most talented players to ever come out the state of Georgia. He has great service out of the back, a wonderful organizer, and also outstanding in the air. It was great to see him battle back from the shoulder injury and finish strong in conference play. Shepherd was a Faculty Scholar student last year and earned the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award. It is a coach's dream to not only have a top athlete but also a top student-athlete."

"Martin is a very talented player. He also had to come back from this serious nose injury in the preseason. He has a tremendous soccer mind and is a very technical player. He is very crafty and has the ability to play at the next level. I congratulate both players on great seasons. Aaron Shepherd will be one of our captains in the spring, and we look foward to him leading the team next year."

Zaluk transferred from Birmingham Southern this season and quickly become a force at the midfield position for State. He started 16 of 16 games played and finished second on the team in goals scored with three and led the team in assists with two. During the UW-Green Bay Nike Soccer Classic, Zaluk scored two goals and added an assist in two games. Zaluk also converted two of two penalty kicks for the Panthers.

Shepherd, a junior defender from Marietta, Ga., missed the first four games of the season due to injury but finished the season with 12 starts in 13 games played. Shepherd was not only a key part of the Panthers' defense, but also helped the Panthers earn a 3-2 victory over VCU. Shepherd scored two goals including the game-winner to help State take the road victory at VCU. Shepherd finished the season with two goals.
