ATLANTA – The Georgia State women’s golf team will open the 2018-19 season on Saturday at the USA Intercollegiate at Magnolia Grove Crossings in Mobile, Ala. It will mark the first of five fall events for the Panthers.
This will mark the second time in three seasons Georgia State plays in South Alabama’s season-opening event. Two years ago the Panthers finish in fifth place as then-freshman Harmanprit Kaur shot 7-over par to finish in 12th place.
Georgia State will go into the first event of the year with a relatively young line-up. Kaur, now a junior, will lead the way while head coach Cathy Mant adds two sophomores – Chloe Howard and Petra Duran – along with two freshman – Emma Berlin and Maria Blasco to the line-up.
Howard led the Panthers with a 74.76 scoring average last season while garnering six top 25 finishes in 10 tournaments. Kaur earned a pair of top 10 finishes last year and a team-low round of 69 during the fall. Duran also returns after playing in four fall events before an injury derailed the second half of her season.
Berlin and Blasco are two of four freshmen competing for the Panthers this year. Berlin hails from Stockholm, Sweden, while Blasco joins Duran from Barcelona, Spain.
“I really like what I have seen over these first couple of weeks of practice,” Mant said. “Our returners came back hungry to get the season off to a great start and our newcomers have worked hard to get into the line-up immediately. We have set lofty goals for our team this season and it starts this week in Mobile.”
The 16-team field will include UAB, Alabama State, Arkansas State, Cal Baptist, Houston Baptist, Lamar, UL Monroe, McNeese State, Stetson, South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Miss, UT Arlington, Tulane, and Western Kentucky.
The field will utilize tee times Saturday through Monday beginning at 9 a.m. ET off Holes No. 1 and No. 10. The Panthers will tee off Hole No. 10 beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET on Saturday paired with Stetson and Arkansas State.

Following this week’s tournament, Georgia State will return to the course later next week for the Lady Paladin Invitational hosted by Furman in Greenville, S.C.
