With the win, the Panthers improved to 7-4 and the Blazers fell to 2-4-3.

GSU kept control of the ball during the first half, with the defense not allowing UAB to get many touches. The Panthers fired 10 shots, four on goal, and held the Blazers to just six shots.

Senior Rashid Alarape came off the bench midway through the first half, immediately making an impact and putting Georgia State on the board off an assist from Alex Summerfield. The Panther defense was able to keep UAB off the board and went into halftime leading 1-0.

The Panthers started the second half in defensive mode, trying to earn their fifth clean sheet of the year. Hemmings was able to score the eventual game-winner unassisted in the 52nd minute, his second goal of the season.

The Wokingham, England native followed up with another goal quickly, scoring at the 58-minute mark. Proctor put the game away in the 76th minute, scoring an unassisted goal.

UAB got on the board with a last minute goal, scoring at the 82-minute mark.

The Panthers led the shot count 17-14, putting nine on target. Hemmings led the offense with four shots, three of which were on goal.

"We had a great response from the team after the defeat last weekend," head coach Brett Surrency said. "Now we will prepare for a quality Georgia Southern team for our SBC opener."

The Panthers will return to the field Saturday at rival Georgia Southern to open Sun Belt play. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Statesboro, Ga.
