BOONE, N.C. – Georgia State’s softball team earned a 4-0 win at Appalachian State in Game 1 of the series Friday evening behind a complete-game shutout by junior Mandy Chance.
Chance was efficient as she worked around six baserunners and struck out a pair. Chance allowed six hits but issued no walks as she held the Mountaineer offense scoreless over seven frames.
Ivie Drake continued her spectacular senior campaign with a solo home run in the top of the third to give GSU the 1-0 lead. The long ball was No. 61 of her career and No. 14 of the season.
Freshman Skylar Mosel added on with a three-run bomb in the top of the fourth to extend GSU’s lead to 4-0. Mosel now has five home runs on the year.
With the win, GSU improves to 21-19 on the year and 6-9 in the Sun Belt. The series with App State will continue Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
