CONWAY, S.C.- The Georgia State women’s soccer team fell 3-1 to Coastal Carolina Thursday night, with freshman Kayla Ruiz scoring her second career goal for GSU.
With the loss, the Panthers fell to 3-8-2 (1-4-1 SBC) and the Chanticleers improved to 9-4-1 (4-2-1 SBC).
GSU outshot Coastal Carolina 4-3 in the first half, but two Chanticleer saves kept the Panthers off the board. CCU was able to net a last first half goal, putting Georgia State down 1-0 at the 42-minute mark.
The Panthers answered quickly, with Ruiz scoring an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute. Coastal Carolina pulled ahead 15 minutes later and put the game away 3-1 at the 71-minute mark.
Georgia State fired eight shots and put five on target. Junior Yvonne Ploeg led the team in shots, taking three with all on goal.
GSU will return to the field next Thursday at Troy for the second of a three-match road stretch.
