MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.-Led by a double-double from junior Malik Benlevi, Georgia State won its fourth-straight game with a 72-58 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon at the HTC Center.

Benlevi finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Jordan Session just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Georgia State (13-6, 4-2 Sun Belt) finished with five players in double figures for the second game in a row. Junior Devin Mitchell led the Panthers with 15 points as Georgia State knocked down 14 3-pointers.

At 13-6, the Panthers are off to the third-best start to a season in program history.

Coastal Carolina (7-12, 1-5 Sun Belt) was led by Artur Labinowicz who scored a career-high 32 points, knocking down 6-of-12 from 3-point range.

Sophomore D’Marcus Simonds scored in double figures for the 36th-straight game finishing with 13 points and four assists. Coming off a career-high, junior Jeff Thomas added 11 points and five rebounds.

“What a huge win today and pair of wins on the road for us this weekend,” head coach Ron Hunter said. “As proud as I am of the defense we played today, I was equally happy with our offense. We spread the ball around well and for the most part took smart shots all game.”

Coastal Carolina took an early 5-0 lead as the Panthers missed their first five shots. However, Georgia State quickly heated up and took a 13-12 lead on a Simonds 3-pointer with 12:45 to play.

The Chanticleers took a 16-13 lead before Georgia State responded with a 7-0 run to lead 20-16 midway through the half.

The Panthers led 27-21 before Coastal Carolina used a 10-0 run to take a 31-27 lead with 2:31 to play as GSU went more than five minutes without scoring.

However, Georgia State knocked down three-straight 3-pointers to end the half, including a pair by Isaiah Williams to go into the locker room with a 36-33 lead.

Georgia State went 9-of-17 from 3-point range in the first half while holding the Chanticleers to just 33.3 percent shooting.

Georgia State quickly pushed the lead to double figures in the second half as Mitchell and Thomas each knocked down a pair of 3-pointers. Using a 15-0 run, the Panthers led 54-36 with 13:53 to play.

Coastal responded with an 11-0 run holding Georgia State scoreless for more than seven minutes to cut the Panthers’ lead to 54-47 with 8:04 to play.

The Panthers responded with a 15-5 run to put the game out of reach with just over a minute to play.

Isaiah Williams came off the bench to score eight points and dish out four assists in 24 minutes for Georgia State.

Jaylen Shaw added 10 points and eight assists for Coastal Carolina which was held to 33.9 percent shooting.

Georgia State will return home to face Georgia Southern on Jan. 20. The game will serve as the annual ‘Barefoot for Bare Feet’ game in which Coach Hunter coaches barefoot to raise awareness for Samaritan’s Feet. Tip is set for 2:15 p.m.
