ATLANTA - Georgia State’s women’s basketball program announced it 11-game non-conference schedule for the upcoming season Friday, including the GSU Thanksgiving Classic to be hosted at the GSU Sports Arena.

The Panthers will play five road contests and six home contests before beginning Sun Belt play on Dec. 29. It’s a very competitive non-conference schedule for head coach Sharon Baldwin and the Panthers.

“We want to give our players a challenge to prepare our team for Sun Belt play,” Baldwin said. “I’m confident that our early games will get us ready different situations we may face down the road.”

Georgia State’s first three games of the season are on the road and against Power-5 teams. GSU opens the year in Gainesville taking on SEC-foe Florida on Nov. 11. The Panthers then head to Starkville, Miss.,  on Nov. 16 to take on the 2016-17 NCAA Runner-Up Bulldogs of Mississippi State. MSU finished last year ranked No. 2 in the country after knocking off UCONN in the Final Four before falling to South Carolina in the championship contest. Georgia State then goes across town to Georgia Tech on Nov. 21 to finish the challenging road tour.

Georgia State’s first home games will be part of the GSU Thanksgiving Classic featuring GSU, VCU, WKU and Mercer. The Panthers will play VCU on Nov. 24 and WKU on Nov. 26.

After a trip up I-75 to Kennesaw State on Nov. 30, the Panthers host four straight games at home against Allen, North Greenville, FAU and Jacksonville State.

Georgia State finishes its non-conference schedule on the road Nov. 21 at UNCW.

Sun Belt play kicks off Dec. 29 when the Panthers visit South Alabama in Mobile, Ala.
