ATLANTA - Following its 11th straight 30-win season in 2017, Georgia State’s softball team and head coach Roger Kincaid announced the 2018 schedule Wednesday which features a strong non-conference slate against several top teams.
On Georgia State’s 2018 schedule is several top-25 schools from a year ago, including the Florida Gators who finished runners-up at the 2017 Women’s College World Series. Other ranked opponents on the slate for GSU include Auburn, Michigan, James Madison and Louisiana.
“I’m excited for our team to have the opportunity to compete against some of the country’s best teams. We expect to go out and surprise some people,” Kincaid said. “Once again, the Sun Belt will be a very strong league so our tough non-conference schedule early on should help prepare us for those late season games against our conference opponents.”
The Panthers begin the season Feb. 9 at the USF Invitational in Tampa, Fla. The Panthers’ first game of the year will be against Michigan who finished the 2017 season ranked No. 20. GSU will also face host USF on Feb. 10 followed by Florida and Illinois State on Feb. 11. GSU wraps up the opening weekend on Feb. 20 against UAB.

Georgia State’s five opponents for the next weekend at Alabama’s tournament in Tuscaloosa have yet to be announced.
The Panthers return home for nine straight home games beginning with the I-75 showdown, a tournament that GSU hosts in conjunction with Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State. GSU will face UCONN, Detroit and DePaul.
The Panthers start conference play March 10 at home against Texas State. This season, the Panthers will host Texas State, Troy, Louisiana, Coastal Carolina and rival Georgia Southern. GSU will visit UTA, South Alabama, Appalachian State and ULM.
