LAFAYETTE, LA -- Georgia State dropped its series finale at Louisiana 11-5 as the Ragin' Cajuns swept the series at Russo Park.

The Panthers (14-38, 5-22 Sun Belt) trailed just 6-5 late in the game, but Louisiana (25-28, 13-14) scored five runs in the eighth to pull away for the victory.

Elian Merejo hit his team-leading seventh home run of the season and Brandon Bell drove in two, but Georgia State finished with just five hits off four Louisiana pitchers.

GSU jumped in front with two runs in the top of the first. Leadoff hitter Daino Deas reached on a wild pitch and scored on Griffin Cheney's double to left field. Cheney moved to third on a fly ball and then came on Bell's groundout for the early 2-0 lead.

Merejo, who also doubled, led off the fourth inning with his shot to left field to make it 3-0, but Louisiana tied the game in the bottom half on Handsome Monica's three-run homer and then added one more to move ahead 4-3.

The Panthers manufactured the tying run in the sixth, loading the bases on two walks and a hit by pitch before scoring on wild pitch. But the Cajuns responded with two in the bottom half to take a 6-4 lead. Georgia State inched closer with one run on Bell's sacrifice fly in the seventh, but that was as close as they could get.

Georgia State plays its final road game Tuesday at Presbyterian (3 p.m.) and then concludes the season by hosting Sun Belt Conference rival Georgia Southern Thursday through Saturday at the GSU Baseball Complex.
