GSU's basketball team was up before the sun to help organize a 5k event in downtown Atlanta

Members of the GSU basketball team immediately got involved in community activities on their first Saturday back in school.

The team participated in the Back On My Feet Meaningful Miles 5k Race in the Old Fourth Ward District of downtown Atlanta.  The team arrived before dawn for the 7 a.m. event east of campus in the historic Martin Luther King site area.

GSU student-athletes helped with the registration tables to get the runners ready to go, then help distribute the t-shirts and gift bags after the 5k event.

Back On My Feet is a national nonprofit organization that is dedicated to creating independence and self-sufficiency within the homeless and other underserved populations by first engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem.

GSU student-athletes contribute more than 5,000 hours of community service each year to become useful citizens within their Atlanta community.
