ATLANTA – Kyle Clinton and Lukas Joyner of Georgia State men’s soccer have been selected to the 2018 CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Thursday.

Both Clinton and Joyner have excelled on the pitch and in the classroom this year, as each player owns a cumulative grade point average above 3.5 and have been an integral part of GSU’s first regular season Sun Belt championship squad in program history.

Clinton, a junior from Havant, England, was tabbed Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and has been named to the All-Sun Belt First Team in all three seasons at Georgia State. His spectacular play on the pitch has made him a 2018 Mac Hermann Trophy candidate, as Clinton has anchored a GSU back line that has conceded only 20 goals in 17 matches this year, including five shutouts.

He’s notched one goal and one assist during the 2018 campaign and played a big role in leading the Panthers to six straight victories for the first time since 1987. Clinton has obtained a 3.60 GPA while majoring in exercise science.

Joyner, a senior from Macon, Ga., has been an effective wing back for the Panthers this season. He collected Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week honors for Sept. 11 after scoring two goals in GSU’s 3-1 win over Winthrop, the third most goals in a single match this year.

Joyner has tallied three total goals in 2018, ranking in the top-10 among all players in the league. He owns a 3.68 GPA while majoring in exercise science.

GSU (9-6-2) will face the winner of Thursday’s Quarterfinal match between No. 4 Coastal Carolina and No. 5 Howard on 4 p.m. Friday in Statesboro, Ga.
