ATLANTA- Georgia State baseball signee Matt Rose was selected in the 24th round by the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
The right-handed pitcher/infielder from Palm Bay High School (Melbourne, Fla.) was named the Florida Today Baseball Player of the Year and led his travel squad, the Palm Bay East All-Stars, to the Senior League Baseball World Series.
The six-foot-four, 195-lb Rose has until July 13 to sign with the Blue Jays organization or else fulfill his commitment to GSU and enroll in school this fall.
Elsewhere, Panthers left-handed pitching signee Garrett Ford led his Loganville High School team to the 2012 Georgia Class AAAA state title. He earned the win and belted a homer at the plate in a deciding 14-4 victory over Greenbrier. Ford finished the season 10-1 on the mound.
The Panthers have inked 11 signees thus far for the upcoming season.
