ATLANTA – The 2013 edition of the Georgia State baseball team reported to campus this week to begin classes. The Panthers welcome 17 newcomers including 13 freshmen to the team this season.

“It is very exciting to get our players back to school,” said GSU head baseball coach Greg Frady. “Every year is a fresh start and each team is unique. All of the players and coaches are ready to get out on the field and begin our work together. I am extremely optimistic that this team will have a special season.”

The Panthers will be looking for their fifth winning season in six years will be relying on leadership from seven seniors including Drew Shields who was recognized by College Sports Madness as a Second Team All-CAA infielder. Shields finished the 2012 campaign with a .303 average and team-leading 60 hits.

GSU also returns sophomore shortstop Caden Bailey, who earned a spot on the CAA All-Rookie team after posting a .315 average and 57 hits in his freshman season. Bailey played in 53 games and scored 28 runs while driving in 16.

The Panthers are currently working on preseason conditioning with the GSU strength and conditioning staff and will begin fall on field workouts in September.
