ATLANTA-Ryan Harrow, who started 24 games for Kentucky this last season, has been cleared to play immediately by the NCAA for the Georgia State men’s basketball team this fall. Georgia State applied for a waiver with the NCAA allowing Harrow to return home to Atlanta for family reasons.

Harrow averaged 9.9 points and 2.8 assists as a redshirt-sophomore last year for the Wildcats. He spent the 2011-12 season redshirting as a part of Kentucky’s national championship squad after transferring from NC State following a coaching change.

Harrow, a native of nearby Marietta, Ga., was a third-team Parade All-America selection coming out of Walton High School. He was named the Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior and was also the 5A Player of the Year. He scored more than 2000 points in his three-year career at Walton, averaging a Cobb County-high 31.4 points as a senior.

“I am really excited for Ryan and his family,” head coach Ron Hunter said. “There is no doubt this will be a huge boost for our team as Ryan is an extremely talented player. He has been working hard not knowing if he would be eligible or not and I have no doubt will work even harder now knowing that he will get to play this season.

“I would like to thank the NCAA, University of Kentucky and all of the members of the Georgia State staff who helped make this possible. It was a total team effort and greatly appreciated by the coaching staff and Ryan’s family.”

Harrow scored in double-figures in 18 of his last 24 games. He averaged 27.1 minutes per game, making 21 three-pointers.

Georgia State returns all but one senior to a squad that won 15 games last season with nine newcomers to the squad.
