The senior from Paterson, N.J. broke her own school record by jumping 13.0m (42’ 8”) on her second of five attempts. The effort placed her 11th in the field of 48 competitors. The top 12 finishers advance to the national meet in Des Monies, Iowa on June 6-9.
This marks only the ninth time that a Panther track and field athlete has competed in the final meet of the season. Nugent becomes only the third Georgia State student-athlete to qualify twice.
Last season, Nugent finished seventh in the Regional meet by jumping a then-school record 12.77m and went on to place 19th at the national meet. She has won the CAA title in the triple jump the past two seasons.
Tamara Moore also competed in the quarterfinal heat of the 100m hurdles earlier in the day. Moore clocked a 13.68 in the event, but did not finish in the top 12 participants in order to advance.
She nevertheless concludes an impressive junior campaign that saw her earn Most Outstanding Track and Field performer at the CAA Championships after winning the conference title in both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles.
