2014-15 Track & Field Try Out/Walk-On Information

If you are a full-time student (minimum 12 hours) at Georgia State University, or will become a full-time student in the Fall of 2014, you are welcome to tryout for the GSU track and field team. Complete information about tryouts for the 2014-15 team COMING SOON. Please check back.

Tryout

Our GSU teams practice in the morning, so tryouts will be run in a morning. Morning class scheduling conflicts need to be addressed in advance.

FOLLOW ALL OF THESE STEPS TO ENSURE ELIGIBILITY FOR TRYOUTS

If you are currently NOT enrolled at Georgia State as a full-time student:

  • You must apply and be accepted to Georgia State University
  • Once you have been accepted, proceed with the instructions that follow
  • If you are not a full-time GSU student, you will NOT be abale to tryout as a walk-on (per the NCAA rules)

To participate in Walk-On Tryouts (MUST take care of ALL these items before the tryouts)

  • You must be registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center. CLICK HERE
  • You must be accepted and enrolled at Georgia State University
  • You must complete the Prospective Student-Athlete Form
  • You must complete the Walk-on Tryout Compliance Form (attached)
  • You must complete the GSU Medical Form (attached)
  • Turn in ALL completed forms to Track & Field coaches at Sports Arena Room 253 by 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23. (Incomplete forms will keep you from being able to try out).

Potential Walk-On currently enrolled at another four-year institution (MUST take care of these before being eligible to contact GSU)

  • You must have been cleared by the NCAA Eligiblity Center. CLICK HERE
  • You fall under the NCAA Transfer Rules set forth by the NCAA
  • To transfer, you MUST receive a release from your previous school (per NCAA)

Please see attached "GSU Performance Standards" above to compare your qualification times.

  • Georgia State University track & field is very competitive and competes at the NCAA Division I level in the Sun Belt Conference.
  • Reaching these tryout time standards will not guarantee you a spot on the team nor an athletic scholarship.  There are many other factors consider: SAT and /or ACT scores, scholarship availability and team needs.  Also note that scholarships can range in value from 1% to 100%.
