ATLANTA -- The Georgia State men’s and women’s cross country teams were tabbed as All-Academic teams by the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this week.

Georgia State was one of 207 women’s teams and 147 men’s teams around the country to maintain at least a 3.00 GPA and send at least five runners to their NCAA Regional meet.

The women’s roster of seventeen student-athletes achieved a 3.5 cumulative GPA and the men’s team of nine held a 3.0 GPA during the 2011 season.

At the 2011 NCAA South Regional meet held in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Nov. 12, the women finished 14th out of 27 teams and the men placed 15th out of 24. Sophomore Valentin Poncelet earned All-Regional honors by finishing 24th in the field of 159 runners.

Seven other teams from the CAA made the list, including Delaware, Hofstra, James Madison, Towson UNCW and William and Mary on the women’s side and George Mason and UNCW on the men’s.
