Ricky Davey joined the Georgia State men's soccer program as an assistant coach in the spring of 2018. Davey comes to Georgia State following a one-year stint at Francis Marion.

“I’m excited about the addition of Ricky to our program and I know he will do a wonderful job,” Surrency said. “Ricky is a young, ambitious coach and our current and future players will really benefit from his presence.”

Prior to his time with the Patriots, Davey served as the graduate assistant coach at Le Moyne College from 2015-2016, where he also earned a master’s degree in education.  During his two seasons with the Dolphins, Le Moyne posted a combined 26-11-3 record and made two appearances in the NCAA Division II national tournament.

He earned his undergraduate degree in nutrition from the University of Montevallo in 2014. In his three seasons with the Falcons, he tallied 16 goals and 20 assists. Davey was named to the Peach Belt All-Conference team once, earned PBC Tournament MVP honors in 2013, was twice named NSCAA All-Region, and helped Montevallo to a pair of conference titles and two NCAA tournament appearances.

Davey played at Appalachian State for one season in 2010 before transferring to Montevallo.

Following his collegiate career, he played several years in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) with the Rocket City United (Huntsville, Ala.), the Birmingham (AL) Hammers, and the Rochester (NY) RiverDogz.

“I am delighted to be joining the Georgia State coaching staff and I look forward to contributing to the reputation and success they have built over the years,” Davey said. “I am extremely excited to be working with this talented group of players and I am positive that with this coaching staff, we will keep building on recent successes and make progress every time we step on the pitch. Georgia provides some fantastic soccer opportunities for young players and we hope to continue recruiting the best players from the state. I would like to say a big thank you to Brett and the GSU Athletics Department for giving me the opportunity to become a Panther.”

Davey possesses a USSF D License and a National Diploma and an Advanced National Diploma, GK Level 1&2 from the NSCAA.

In the spring of 2019, Davey received his Premier Diploma from United Soccer Coaches, the organization's highest technical award.
