ATLANTA- The Georgia State men’s soccer team will host No. 11 Louisville Friday night at 7 p.m. at the LakePoint Sporting Complex for the final match in a three-game home stand. The match was originally scheduled for the GSU Soccer Complex, but inclement weather made the field unplayable.
The Panthers opened the season strong, shutting out Mercer and USC Upstate in 2-0 victories opening weekend. Juniors Hannes Burmeister and Max Hemmings scored game-winning goals, and senior Yannic Horn posted four saves. Burmeister and Horn were named Sun Belt Players of the Week for their efforts on the field.
Georgia State enters week two with a No. 2 Southeast Region ranking from United Soccer Coaches, the highest regional ranking the team has received. GSU also received votes in the national poll, tying at No. 38 with three other teams.
Louisville comes to Georgia State with a 2-0 record, defeating UC Irvine and No. 25 Butler on the road. The Cardinals opened the preseason at No. 9 but fell two spots after the first week of play.
This will be the first time the two teams have met, and is the first of two ACC opponents Georgia State will face this season.
Live stats will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com but due to the change in venue, a live stream of the match will not be available on PantherVision. Parking is $5 per car and admission is free.
