EMERSON, Ga.- The Georgia State men’s soccer team fell 1-0 in a tough loss to No. 11 Louisville.

With the loss, the Panthers fell to 2-1 and the Cardinals improved to 3-0.

Both teams played aggressive defense, splitting possession and keeping the ball at midfield. Georgia State took just one of the three first half shots, with Liam Fitzsimmons shooting just above the cross bar.

The match went into the half tied at 0-0, but a successful Cardinal penalty kick put Louisville on the board in the 46th minute. The Panthers tried to find the equalizer, but the team was unable to find the back of the net.

“We’re not very pleased with tonight’s result,” head coach Brett Surrency said. “There were not a lot of chances for both sides, but they were able to put it away. In games like this, there are small moments within the game that are the deciding factors and unfortunately it went their way tonight. I think we can take a good bit of confidence from this game moving forward. We’ve got a tough game on Tuesday but I think this will give us the belief moving into the away game that we can compete with anyone in the country.”

Georgia State will face Wake Forest for its road opener on Tuesday, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at W. Dennie Spry Stadium. Live stats will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com.
