ONEONTA, N.Y.- The Georgia State men's soccer team earned its seventh shutout of the season with a 3-0 win over Hartwick Saturday night. Junior Hannes Burmeister scored twice for GSU, including the game-winner.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 11-5-1 (3-0-1 SBC) while the Hawks fell to 7-8-1 (2-2 SBC).
Georgia State got on the board early, with Burmeister scoring the eventual game-winner directly off a corner at the seven-minute mark. Kyle Clinton quickly widened the lead to 2-0, scoring off a deflected save in the ninth minute of the first half.
The Panthers put the game away coming out of the half, with Burmeister scoring his second goal of the night off a corner kick from Liam Fitzsimmons at the 65-minute mark. Burmeister led the team's 13 shots with five, three of which were on target.
Senior Yannic Horn earned his 14th career shutout for GSU with the win, making four saves to lead the team to a clean sheet. The defensive effort by the team was impressive, with the backline holding the team to just four shots on goal.
The team will return to the GSU Soccer Complex for its final match of the regular season on Nov. 4, hosting Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m. Senior day activities will begin prior to kickoff.
"We earned a huge win tonight," head coach Brett Surrency said. "We knew the conditions would make for a bit more of a direct game and our guys responded well. We were opportunistic with our chances and it's always great to get a clean sheet. Now we put our focus on a great Coastal Carolina team and try to win the league."
Parking and admission to the GSU Soccer Complex are free. Live stats will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com and a live stream will be available on PantherVision.
