ATLANTA – Georgia State men’s soccer will host defending Sun Belt champion Coastal Carolina Sunday afternoon for Senior Day at the GSU Soccer Complex, honoring its eight seniors in the final home match of the season.
GSU (8-5-2, 1-0-2 Sun Belt) returns to the pitch after a 1-0 defeat at South Carolina on Tuesday, the first time the Panthers had been shut out since Oct. 9. Georgia State will look to finish conference play undefeated for the first time since the 1989 season and enters the weekend ranked second in the league in goals allowed with 13 and third in total goals with 18.
Aris Briggs leads the Panthers in goals scored with four, tied for the sixth most among all Sun Belt players this season. He is one of 11 different GSU players to record a goal this year, including one of four to net multiple goals.
Coastal Carolina (8-4-0, 1-1-0 Sun Belt) comes off a 2-1 overtime road win over No. 10 UNC Wilmington Wednesday night, extending the team’s winning streak to three games. The Chanticleers lead the Sun Belt with 1.67 goals and 1.42 assists per match. The team is led by senior forward Yazeed Matthews, who is second in the Sun Belt in both total points with 21 and goals scored with nine.
