GREENVILLE, S.C. – Georgia State men’s soccer standout and three-time All-Conference selection Max Hemmings has signed with the Greenville Triumph SC of USL League One, the club announced Friday morning.

Hemmings joins the Triumph after four years with the Panthers, were he experienced ample success on the pitch and in the classroom. He finished his Georgia State career with 71 starts in 74 appearances and had 19 goals and 10 assists for 48 total points. The Wokingham, England, native collected numerous Sun Belt All-Conference and Player of the Week honors as well as earning two-time memberships of both the AD Honor Roll and President’s List.

He most recently was named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Second Team along with teammate Kyle Clinton for his success in both athletics and academics.

“I’m so happy to sign my first professional contract with the Triumph,” Hemmings said. “A big thank you to everyone at Georgia State for everything they have done for me in the last four years. I can’t wait to get started.”  

In his senior season at GSU, Hemmings produced four goals and five assists for a team-high 13 points. He also led the team in total shots (59), shots on goal (28) and assists (5). Hemmings had a signature performance on Senior Day against defending conference champion Coastal Carolina, where he scored two goals and added an assist for the most points in a single league match by any player in the Sun Belt in 2018.  

The senior midfielder played a pivotal role in helping Georgia State earn the program’s first ever Sun Belt Regular Season and Tournament Titles in 2018 and make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2011. Hemmings was also a part of the 2017 team that defeated GSU’s highest-ranked opponent in school history with a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 2 Wake Forest.

“We are all really proud and happy for Max as he jumps to the professional level,” GSU head coach Brett Surrency said. “Since his freshman year, Max has conducted himself like a pro so it is no surprise to me that he has now signed on with Greenville. I have no doubt that Max will be a successful pro and am quite excited to watch his continued progress at the next level.”

Hemmings spent time with Greenville during the club’s preseason session at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. and has been training the with team while finishing his degree at Georgia State. The Triumph continue their inaugural season with a match at Forward Madison FC 8 p.m. Saturday.
